To begin our Natural Disasters topic, we designed and created earthquake proof buildings. First of all, we explored earthquakes and found out how they happen. We familiarised ourselves with the Richter scale and examined buildings found in places where earthquakes are common to find inspiration for our own. We worked in small groups to create a design and thought carefully about all the ways that we could make our structures secure, including the shape. Then we created our buildings! Finally, we shared them, evaluated how effective they were and considered what we might do differently next time.
