Bye bye butterflies!
As you aware our topic for this term is ‘Amazing Animals’ and we were lucky enough at the beginning of this half term to be joined in both Rabbits and Squirrels by some caterpillar friends.
As the weeks have passed, the children have enjoyed watching the caterpillars grow. The children have learnt that caterpillars grow quickly and were surprised by how quick the caterpillars formed into a chrysalis. This past week the children were thrilled to discover that some of the butterflies had emerged from their cocoons. We are pleased to report that all cocoons in both Rabbits and Squirrels emerged into beautiful butterflies.
On the last day of the half term Reception were joined by Hedgehogs to release the butterflies into the wild. We walked over to the big field and created a large circle. The children got to say their final goodbyes to the butterflies before Mrs Johnstone and Miss Ludlow released them. Whilst the children were sad to see the butterflies go they understood that it was best for them and were excited to watch them fly away!
