Safeguarding
Stopsley Community Primary School and Nursery takes safeguarding seriously. All staff within the school have a responsibility to promote the welfare of children and report any incidents or potential signs of neglect and/or abuse to the school's Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL).
The school's DSLs are:
Ms Mann (Safeguarding, Trauma, Pastoral & Wellbeing Leader)
Mr Fordham (Headteacher)
Miss Gallagher (FLAG Club Leader)
The school's Deputy DSLs are:
Mrs Broderick (Senior Assistant Headteacher)
We always have every child's best interest at heart and provide a safe and fun environment for them to learn.
What does the school do if they have concerns?
All members of staff at the school have undergone Safeguarding training. This is updated on a regular basis and helps us to stay aware of any potential safeguarding issues.
If a potential safeguarding issue arises, it is passed onto the Safeguarding Officer and due process is followed. In some cases, a meeting may be arranged with the Designated Safeguarding Lead to help assist and resolve the issue.
If you have any queries, concerns or would like more information, please contact Ms Mann on 01582 611035 or you can contact her by email at:

Operation Encompass
Our school takes part in an operation that runs jointly with Bedfordshire Police and Luton Children’s Social Care.
Operation Encompass has been designed to provide early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur in which a child was present, ordinarily resides at the incident location or with an involved party. We know that children can be significantly affected through witnessing or being exposed to domestic abuse and this operation will allow us to better support our pupils and their families.A nominated member of staff, known as a Single Point of Contact (SPOC), is identified to receive the information. At our school our SPOC is Ms Mann (Safeguarding Lead). She will be able to use information that has been shared with her, in confidence, to ensure that the right support is available should it be required by a child.
We are keen to offer the best support available to our pupils. Parents with any concerns or questions can contact Ms Mann or another DSL who will be happy to help.
NHS statistics indicate that the need for mental health support for children and young people in the UK is higher than ever, with 1 in 6 children (16%) reported as being in need of such help. Unchecked worry and anxiety in under-18s is a key contributor to this figure, with roughly 4 in 10 children (37.4%) saying they don’t receive regular support from their school or college π
While everyone feels a touch of concern over the future now and then, chronic worry and anxiety can feel unending βΎοΈ This can cause significant damage to young people’s wellbeing – such as losing sleep, feeling emotionally drained, and having their school grades impacted π It's vital that children and young people suffering from worry and anxiety have effective tools to manage their fears and regain control, and know when to seek further help. This Wake Up Wednesday, we’re offering expert guidance on how to provide that support.
** National Safeguarding Alert - Sextortion **
There has been a significant increase/risk in a short period of time of this devastatingly successful blackmail trend across the country and around the world.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) has issued an urgent alert to schools across the UK about financially motivated sexual extortion or 'sextortion'. This type of blackmail involves a person being forced into paying money or meeting another financial demand, following a threat to release nude or semi-nude photos of them. The alert explains how to spot signs of this type of abuse and support affected children.
The National Crime Agency suggests that guidance is shared with parents and carers, and not just with schools.
NCA issues urgent warning about ‘sextortion’
Please keep this in mind for children and young people in your families.
