The Game that Never Gets Old.

How many of you remember playing ‘I Spy’ with your family on car and train journeys?

This game is perfect for helping your child tune into initial sounds. We will be playing this as often as possible in the coming weeks.  We will ask children what the first sound is that they hear in a word or the first sound they make when they start to say it.

Imagine, if you will, that we are playing now.  Look at the animals that are lined up here. When it’s my turn I will say “I spy with my little eye something beginning with t” but I will make the sound and not use the letter name.

I would like to encourage you to play this game at home but line up the toys, objects or people first to eliminate the extra complexity of looking around the room and trying to work out the sound of everything within view.

Have fun!
