We are learning The Train Ride story
This term our topic is 'Terrific Transport'
Our focus text is 'The Train Ride' and the children have been learning this story. The children have a story map and they are learning to retell the story off by heart. We take an in-depth look at our focus texts, looking for new words, discussing the characters and the setting and making predictions of what might come next.
We also like to immerse the children in different experiences to help them deepen their understanding of the text. Some children have been on a train and some have not. One of our activities was to create an imaginary train ride in our classrooms where children got to 'look out of the window' and spot the different scenes. We then described what we could see and the children were introduced to the idea that some words make descriptions better and easier for the listener to understand. These words are called adjectives and children will learn more about them throughout the year and even start using them in their own writing some day!
We have been really proud of the children and how they have settled into their first half term at 'big school'. We are looking forward to next half term already!
