A fun day out at the Farm
To support our topic of ‘Amazing Animals’ Reception were lucky enough to take a trip to Mead Open Farm
The day started with the children very excited about the fact that we all had a packed lunch and that the grown ups would be eating with them. Once on the coach the children gave the driver an enthusiastic rendition of ‘the wheels on the bus.’
When we arrived at the farm both Rabbits and Squirrels were given a timetable for the day and set off for various different adventures. Throughout the day we were lucky enough to feed both the goats and sheep as well as grooming the ponies. A highlight of the day for most of the children was the ‘bunny hop’ where children got to stroke several rabbits and ask questions to their keepers. When it came to feeding the lambs the children were very good at listening to the instructions given and all remembered to hold the bottles up high to make sure the lambs got their milk.
By the time it got to 12 0’clock the children were more than ready for lunch, and whilst eating their lunch happily spoke to their friends about the favourite part of the day so far. After lunch we were back up and ready for more adventures, this included seeing alpacas, highland cows and even taking a ride on a tractor.
To finish our day Reception got the chance to explore the outside play area, something they had been asking to do since they arrived.
It was a wonderful day with all the children in Reception making us very proud with their behaviour.
