Pet week
To support our topic of 'Amazing Animals', Reception were lucky enough to have a few special visitors this week.
We started the week by meeting the school dog Miya. The children had the opportunity to stroke Miya as well as asking any questions they wanted to find out. The children were excited to discover that Miya's favourite thing was a tennis ball and were curious to discover if she was faster than a cheetah. The children discovered the answer to this when, later in the day, they had the opportunity to watch Miya chase the ball. The children discovered that Miya was not faster than a cheetah.
Mr Tiggy, the pygmy hedgehog, then came to visit Rabbits and Squirrels on Tuesday. Again, the children were able to ask questions and in small groups, so as not to scare My Tiggy, the children got to sit close to him and used their best listening ears to hear him grunt. Did you know that a male pygmy hedgehog is grumpier than a female.
On Wednesday, we were joined by Mango the tortoise. Mango lives with our very own Mrs Rooney. Once again the children got to ask questions whilst observing Mr Mango, but they also had the rare opportunity to stroke his shell. the children were very shocked to discover how fast Mango was as they said they thought he would be as slow as a snail.
Finally, to end pet week, one of our very own Rabbits, along with her mummy, brought her two pet guinea pigs in. Rabbits and Squirrels were very lucky to meet Crunchie and Fudge. Along with asking questions, the children were very fortunate to get to stroke one of the guinea pigs and lots went home saying they were going to ask their grown ups for one.
The children loved meeting all the animals this week and it was a great way to end the half term!
