School Council
Helping young people to become active, democratic citizens.
The School Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run.
The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made.
Councillors develop skills such as confidence, communication and negotiation. It is the responsibility of each councillor to ensure that they express both their own views and the views of all the other pupils they represent.
Who can be a member of the School's Council?
We have an active School Council with a child representing their fellow pupils from each class from Year 1 to Year 6.
Each councillor is elected by their classmates at the beginning of the school year after a short presentation explaining why they should be elected.
What do we do?
Members of the Council take part in discussions and votes and also feed back any relevant information to their class. At times, they are requested to ask their class for ideas or take class votes relating to discussions by the Council.
Members meet regularly with Mrs Dearman and Miss Southwell (our School Council Leads).
There is information on CBBC to explain a little further.
What did we do last year?
The School Council met and created the Children's School Development Plan, with six targets for them to help make our school even better. They are held an assembly with their classes to find out what the children felt we should focus on to make our school better in a number of different areas, from curriculum to lunchtimes and attendance.
Being a part of the School Council is a great way for our children to become #changemakers and determine our focus for our #changemaker projects.
